There could be nothing there. But there have been a lot of allegations made and I think it’s important people have the facts instead of allegations so they can make intelligent decisions.United States Representative Dave Joyce (R-OH) on the claims made against President Joe Biden related to allegations regarding his family’s business dealings; Joyce voted in favor of an impeachment inquiry. On Wednesday, the House of Representatives approved the impeachment inquiry into President Biden.
What’s An Impeachment Inquiry: “An impeachment inquiry is an investigation of possible wrongdoing by a federal official, such as the president of the United States … The process is written into the Constitution and is the most powerful check that Congress has on the executive branch. While the House of Representatives wields the power to impeach a federal official, only the Senate has the ability to convict and remove an individual from office. To date, no president has ever been forced from the White House through impeachment” (The Associated Press). An inquiry does not automatically mean an impeachment will occur.
Why It Matters: The House of Representatives voted along party lines, with all Republicans in favor of authorizing the inquiry and no Democrats voting to authorize it. Although the impeachment inquiry into the President was launched in September, Republicans say authorizing the investigation helps decrease legal ambiguity and may provide them with more authority in getting cooperation from the Biden administration. The investigation will likely last well into 2024, as President Biden runs for reelection.
Pres. Biden’s Response: “Instead of doing anything to help make Americans’ lives better, they are focused on attacking me with lies. Instead of doing their job on the urgent work that needs to be done, they are choosing to waste time on this baseless political stunt that even Republicans in Congress admit is not supported by facts.”
