Sounds like a whip!

Amateur photographer and meteorologist, Dave Vogan, in Buffalo, New York on experiencing a rare weather event called “thunder snow.”

Why It Matters: A dangerous lake-effect snowstorm  has already dumped three feet of snow in less than 24 hours in northwest New York State. New York Governor issued an emergency declaration for 11 counties. The region is also experiencing “thundersnow” – “a rare weather phenomenon in which thunder and lightning are accompanied predominantly by snow rather than rain” (NOAA)

.

Note for football fans: The Buffalo Bills were to host the Cleveland Browns this Sunday, but “due to public safety concerns and out of an abundance of caution in light of the ongoing weather emergency in western New York” the National Football League moved the game to Detroit.
