- On Thursday afternoon, 30 TikTok stars attended a Zoom meeting with the White House to receive key information about the war in Ukraine and have their questions answered.
- White House director of digital strategy, Rob Flaherty, remarked during the meeting, “We recognize this is a critically important avenue in the way the American public is finding out about the latest, so we wanted to make sure you had the latest information from an authoritative source.”
Something To Consider: This is not the first time the Biden administration has turned to online creators; they previously worked with TikTok stars to encourage vaccination for COVID-19 and also hosted a briefing for influencers about the infrastructure plan.
Why It Matters: Millions of people rely on TikTok for news on the war in Ukraine, prompting the White House to use the platform as one way to share information on how the U.S. is responding to the Russian invasion.
