Top Halloween Candy This Year

We’ve got three newcomers: Tootsie Pops, Sour Patch Kids, and Candy Corn — two classics and a candy with a modern sour twist, which tells us there’s a delectable blend of nostalgia and contemporary flavors showing up in candy bowls.

Grocery delivery service Instacart collects data on the top Halloween candy purchased in each state to help analyze the holiday’s trends – including the top candy in each state AND the top candies nationwide. The top three candies – Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Peanut M&M’s, and regular M&M’s – typically rank as the most popular choices each year, the company says. Here is 2022’s top 10 list, which Instacart says provides a “glimpse of what’s going to fill up candy bowls again soon“:

4. Tootsie Pops
5. Twizzlers
6. Hershey’s Milk Chocolate
7. Sour Patch Kids

P.S. Candy prices rose 7.5% compared to last year, on par with an overall trend of increased Halloween-related spending. Plus, 2023 Halloween participation is expected to break a record, exceeding “pre-pandemic levels” (National Retail Federation).
