Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) on passing a temporary spending bill to avoid a partial government shutdown.

Why It Matters: Lawmakers passed a temporary spending bill late last year to avoid a government shutdown – moving the threat of partial shutdown to January. This latest vote funds the government until March 1 and March 8th.

Interesting To Note: The temporary funding bill required bipartisan support, though more Democrats supported the bill than Republicans, raising some questions about Speaker Mike Johnson’s ability to gain the support of the more conservative members of his party – who forced the ouster of the previous Speaker Kevin McCarthy.
