We have taken a step back and are pausing and reviewing all aspects of this relationship.

National Security Adviser Mike Waltz, speaking on Wednesday on why the U.S. has paused its intelligence sharing with Ukraine.

Why It Matters: The U.S. sharing intelligence with Ukraine has helped provide the country with critical information regarding drone and missile attacks and Russia’s troop movements in Ukraine.

  • The pause in intelligence sharing coincides with a pause in military aid after the heated exchange in the White House on February 28.
  • The pause may be short if President Donald Trump and Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy return to the table and have a positive conversation. “If we can nail down these negotiations and move towards these negotiations and, in fact, put some confidence building measures on the table, then the president will take a hard look at lifting this pause,” National Security Advisor Waltz said on “Fox & Friends.”
  • President Zelenskyy posted on X on Tuesday about Ukraine’s readiness to work with President Trump, but the pause in intelligence sharing has not been specifically addressed.
  • European Union leaders meet today to discuss Ukraine and ways to increase Europe’s military budgets. President Zelenskyy will be in attendance. This follows a meeting that happened Sunday in London where leaders of several European countries discussed the path forward.
