The attack did not result in any casualties …

UAE Ministry of Defense on two missiles shot from nearby Yemen by Houthi rebels, the second such attack in recent days.
  • Yemen is a site of an ongoing civil war – the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels clash with the previous government backed by Saudi Arabia, UAE and, at times, the U.S.
  • Fighting has recently increased, leading to more casualties.
  • In the last week, the United Arab Emirates says the Houthi rebels launched a different attack that *did* lead to casualties – 3 people died when missiles hit a fuel storage facility and a construction site.

Why It Matters: The civil war in Yemen has often been described as a proxy war between larger regional players like Saudi Arabia and Iran. Questions have continued about if and when it becomes a larger, overt regional conflict. The attack on UAE shows an expansion of the conflict.
