Now, it is up to the United States to convince Russia to do the same. If Russia agrees, the ceasefire will take effect immediately.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy posting on X following a meeting in Saudi Arabia between U.S. and Ukrainian officials that ended with a 30-day ceasefire agreement.

Why It Matters: The meeting between U.S. and Ukraine officials lasted more than eight hours and produced a 30-day ceasefire agreement. Following the meeting and deal, the U.S. said it will lift its pause on military aid and intelligence sharing to Ukraine. “Representatives of both nations praised the bravery of the Ukrainian people in defense of their nation and agreed that now is the time to begin a process toward lasting peace,” the State Department said in a joint statement.

What’s Next: It is now up to Russia to accept the agreement. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said he hopes to get this done “as soon as possible” but did not specify a deadline. “If they [Russia] say no, then we’ll unfortunately know what the impediment to peace here is,” said Sec. Rubio.

Noteworthy: Overnight, Ukraine launched a major drone attack against Russia in Moscow. At least three people were killed and at least 17 were injured. Several high-rise residential buildings, houses and businesses were damaged, according to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin.
