… if something is launched into other countries’ airspace, sooner or later unknown flying objects will return to departure point.Ukrainian presidential adviser Mykhaylo Podolyak tweeted on Monday following drone strikes on two Russian air bases.
Why It Matters: The strikes landed in Russia, more than 300 miles from the border of Ukraine; Ukraine has not officially claimed responsibility for what The Associated Press describes as “some of the most brazen [attacks] inside Russia during the war” which began more than nine months ago. The Russian Defense Ministry recognized the attack and said at least three Russian soldiers were killed.
Important Context: The drones had to travel up to 400 miles undetected in order to reach Russia, indicating a “potentially serious security lapse by Russia,” according to The Washington Post. Although Ukraine has not directly taken responsibility for the attacks, Ukrainian officials have alluded to its involvement.
