Ukraine’s Pres. Zelenskyy and European Leaders to Meet with Pres. Trump  

This is President Trump invited Ukraine and other European countries to Washington today – this is the first meeting in such a format, and it is very serious.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy ahead of Monday’s meeting in which he and other European leaders will visit President Donald Trump at the White House. This follows PresIdent Trump’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday in Alaska.

Why It Matters:  Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has spanned three years and led to countless deaths. The roots of this latest conflict date back to 2014, when Russia invaded a smaller section of Ukraine, annexing (claiming and taking over) parts of the country as its own. President Trump has repeatedly expressed his desire to end the war, both during his campaign for the presidency and while in office.  

For the meeting, President Zelenskyy will be joined by the European Commission president, as well as the French president, the U.K. Prime Minister, German Chancellor, Italian Prime Minister, the Finnish president and the secretary-general of the NATO military alliance.

Something To Consider: President Zelenskyy’s last visit to the White House ended with an escalated exchange between himself and President Trump.
