There is no more time to monitor and hope for this system.

National Hurricane Center Deputy Director Jamie Rhome with an update on Hurricane Idalia.

Why It Matters:

The Category 2 storm (mph up to 100 mph) has "additional strengthening to go … before making landfall"

"You won't have tomorrow. You will not have tomorrow to finalize your preparations. You have to do it this evening and tonight."

The storm is picking up speed and likely will become a Category 3 storm, with maximum sustained winds of at least 115 mph.

"…where it makes landfall is not important," Rhome says because of the widespread wind speeds, and flooding potential in a wide swath of Northern Florida (Big Bend), and southern Georgia.
