Headed home to Buffalo today with a lot of love on my heart.NFL player Damar Hamlin, who was moved to a hospital in Buffalo, New York on Monday. Hamlin said: “The same love you all have shown me is the same love that I plan to put back into the world n more. Bigger than football!”
Why It Matters: Physicians at the University of Cincinnati Health, where 24-year-old Hamlin was being treated after suffering cardiac arrest during a football game one week ago today, shared that Hamlin is doing well and has been transferred to a hospital in Buffalo for continued care. They said that Hamlin began walking with assistance on Friday, and that his move to Buffalo "is the beginning of the next stage of his recovery."
- On Sunday, the Buffalo Bills (the team Hamlin plays for) returned to the field and defeated the New England Patriots. The Associated Press reports: "The Bills wore No. 3 Hamlin patches on their jerseys Sunday and honored their teammate by raising three fingers in the closing minutes, while tight end Dawson Knox celebrated his touchdown by forming his hands into the shape of a heart. Fans joined in, with many holding up red heart and No. 3 signs."
- On Monday, Dr. Timothy Pritts at UC Health shared that when Hamlin watched the game on Sunday, "He was beyond excited … When the opening kickoff was run back, he jumped up and down, got out of his chair, set I think every alarm off in the ICU in the process. He was fine, it was just an appropriate reaction to a very exciting play … He very much enjoyed it and enjoys the support from everyone."
