VP Harris Headed To US-Mexico Border

Earlier this year, the President asked the Vice President to oversee our diplomatic efforts to address the root causes of migration from El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras. As a part of this ongoing work, the Vice President … will travel to El Paso on Friday.

Vice President Kamala Harris’s spokesperson confirming the VP will head to El Paso, TX later this week in her first trip to the U.S.-Mexico border as part of the administration.
  • Vice President Harris’s trip to the border comes after four months of record-breaking border crossing figures. Just last month, over 180,000 people attempted entry along the SW border, making it the highest single-month total in approx. two decades.
  • When asked about the timing of the visit, White House Press Sec. Jen Psaki said the decision was made in conjunction with Department of Homeland Security Sec. Alejandro Mayorkas, who will accompany the Vice President, in order to address the root causes of migration and “get the situation under control.”
  • Last week, former Pres. Donald Trump announced he’ll visit the border alongside Texas Gov. Greg Abbott next Wednesday. They’ll be joined by several joined by House lawmakers.
