Walgreens Announces Price Reductions Amid Still-Elevated Inflation

June 3, 2024

We continue to be committed to our customers by lowering prices on over a thousand additional items, something we’ve been doing since October of 2023.

Walgreens executive Tracey Brown in a press release announcing the chain pharmacy is dropping prices on more than 1,300 items amid still-elevated inflation (high inflation = your dollar buys you less).

Why It Matters: Walgreens dropped prices on more than 1,300 items this week, including items such as One A Day gummy vitamins, store brand mini pretzels and the Squishmallow 16″ plush. The move comes soon after other major retailers, including Target and Walmart, announced price reductions.

Big Picture: Still-elevated inflation impacts consumer spending habits. Additionally, Walgreens has experienced financial struggles in recent years, and earlier this year reported a net loss of nearly $6 billion in the second quarter.
