He can have a filet mignon. And I’ll have Champagne.Dog handler and breeder David Fitzpatrick on his dog, Wasabi, winning best in show at the Westminster Kennel Club dog show.
Fitzpatrick went on to say of the Pekingese: “He has showmanship. He fits the breed standard. He has that little extra something, that sparkle, that sets a dog apart.”
Wasabi’s grandfather, Malachy, won the title of “Top Dog” in 2012; Malachy was trained by Fitzpatrick.
Why It Matters: The Westminster Kennel dog show dates back to 1877 and is viewed as one of the preeminent dog shows in the world.
Interesting context due to COVID: This was the first time the show was ever held outside of New York City; it was held in a NYC suburb due to COVID-19.
