White House Announces Aid For Ukraine

This ammunition will keep Ukraine’s guns firing for a period, but only a short period. It is nowhere near enough to meet Ukraine’s battlefield needs, and it will not prevent Ukraine from running out of ammunition in the weeks to come.

United States National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan on Tuesday as the White House announced a $300 million weapons package for Ukraine.

Why It Matters: The new military package marks the first aid sent to Ukraine from the U.S. since December. The topic of aid to Ukraine has remained a point of contention in Congress as lawmakers work to agree on a budget. However, as Sullivan announced the additional aid on Tuesday, he explained the funding comes from unanticipated cost savings within the Pentagon but will only be enough to help Ukraine for a few weeks.
