Big Picture: Including 98 Christmas trees and nearly 34,000 ornaments, first lady Jill Biden describes the theme of this year’s holiday decorations as intended to “capture the pure, unfiltered delight and imagination of our childhoods, to see this time of year through the wondrous, sparkling eyes of children.” Plus, the decorations make several nods to the book “’Twas the Night Before Christmas” as this year marks the 200thanniversary since its publication.
Did You Know? While each president has decorated the White House differently throughout the centuries (with decor being very limited in the nineteenth century), First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy became the first woman to select a theme for the White House Christmas tree – with the first official theme revolving around the “Nutcracker Suite” ballet.
