Widespread smoke from Canadian wildfires continue to bring hazardous air quality levels across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.

The National Weather Service on Thursday.

Why It Matters: Poor air quality continues to impact the Northeastern United States, with New York City experiencing its worst ever recorded air pollution on Wednesday. New satellite images from NOAA show the large blanket of Canadian wildfire smoke as it gets "swept up by a large swirling low pressure system," causing smoke to linger in impacted areas (NOAA). They warn that air quality alerts continue to be in effect across central and eastern states.
