Yankee Player Ben Rice Makes History

July 8, 2024

It’s definitely a day I’ll never forget.

New York Yankees rookie player Ben Rice, after hitting three home runs in a single game and making history.

Why It Matters: Ben Rice, a rookie player for the New York Yankees, became the first rookie in the 121-year history of the team to hit three home runs in a single game. His feat places him with just two other MLB rookies. The crowd celebrated the 25-year-old player by giving him a curtain call (when a player emerges from the dugout to acknowledge the crowd). Rice recalled the moment saying, “I heard everyone yelling at me to do something. I didn’t even know what they were talking about, but as they slowly guided me toward the steps, I was like, ‘Oh, dude. A curtain call. That’s pretty cool.’”
