No matter how powerful, every person involved in this conspiracy must be investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, to ensure nothing like this ever happens again.
Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard in a declassified report released on Friday, alleging that President Obama and members of his administration attempted to “subvert the will of the American people and try to usurp the President from fulfilling his mandate.”
Why It Matters: Gabbard alleges the Obama administration attempted to undermine the election of Pres. Trump in 2016 by manipulating intelligence information, and leaking reports to the press, to cast doubt about President Trump’s victory. Gabbard says she will turn over this information to the Department of Justice.
From Gabbard’s report: “After months of investigation into this matter, the facts reveal this new assessment was based on information that was known by those involved to be manufactured i.e. the Steele Dossier or deemed as not credible. This was politicized intelligence that was used as the basis for countless smears seeking to delegitimize President Trump’s victory, the years-long Mueller investigation, two Congressional impeachments, high level officials being investigated, arrested, and thrown in jail, heightened US-Russia tensions, and more.”
Gabbard critics say the report comes at a time when the administration wants to deflect criticism on other fronts, such as the Jeffrey Epstein investigation:
“Baseless accusations of treason are unfortunately par for the course for this Director of National Intelligence, but that doesn’t make them any less damaging and unacceptable. The IC leaders in 2016 understood that they took an oath to the Constitution, not President Trump. I wish Director Gabbard could say the same.” Rep. Jim Himes (D-Conn.)
