I remand the defendant to the custody of the Idaho State Board of Corrections for him to be imprisoned in an appropriate facility … where he will remain until he dies.

Idaho District Judge Steven Hippler sentencing Bryan Kohberger on Wednesday to life in prison for killing four University of Idaho students in 2022.

Why It Matters: The 30-year-old pleaded guilty earlier this month, with the court announcing four consecutive life sentences and an additional 10-year sentence for the murders of four college students in their off-campus home. Kohberger’s motive remains unknown, with the judge saying, “even if we could get truthful insight,” it would not be satisfying, “because there is no reason for these crimes that could approach anything resembling rationality.”
